Workshops, Resources &
Peer Support
Applying for external
funding is a multi-layered process. From identifying sources of
funding, to crafting a compelling proposal, to navigating on-line
applications, there is much to consider. The Office of Faculty Grant
Support looks to offer education and resources that can make this
process as smooth and enjoyable (yes, it can be!) as possible.
Faculty Workshops
We currently offer workshops on the following topics:
The Basics: This
session is an overview of the grants process both in general and as
it relates to W&L practices and policies. We cover the use of
subscription databases to search for funders, the essential elements
of a good proposal, the importance of references and much more.
The Art of the
Narrative: This session takes a close look at what makes a great
proposal using the wisdom of successful W&L grant applicants as well
as winning proposals from the NEH and other national funders, and
evaluation tools "from the trade."
Funder-Focus:
These short sessions provide
information about specific foundations and grant-making agencies,
giving an overview of the agency's profile, goals, and requirements
as well as inside tips from past recipients.
Workshops are scheduled
periodically throughout the year based on faculty interest. If you
would like to attend one, or have an additional topic to suggest,
send a note to Jane Stewart.
Resources
A number of funding
directories and other publications related to the grant-seeking
process are available at W&L's Leyburn Library. Directories and
other materials, including foundation annual reports, and agency
brochures and guidelines can be borrowed from the Office of
Corporate and Foundation relations and Faculty Grant Support.
A list of helpful
guides is provided on the
Proposal
Development and Submission page of this site. Click

Peer Support
Faculty Reviewers
are highly knowledgeable and experienced W&L faculty members
who volunteer their time to review and critique peer proposals.
