Mark Rush Eighteen
university teachers will participate in Manila's intensive,
four-week, residential American Studies Summer Institutes. The
theme of the 2004 Institute is "The American Electoral
Process: Then and Now." The Institute involves
teaching a course, "The American Electoral Process:
Contemporary Issues," which will look at recent efforts to
reform the electoral process and campaign finance, the use of recall
to replace elected officials at the state and local levels, the 2000
Presidential election, changing demographics, the role of special
interest groups, and the effect of gender, race, and religion on
elections. In addition, the participant will be a featured
speaker in a two-day international conference on
"Elections."
