American Council of Learned Societies - Multiple fellowships offered; new competition programs come out in June/July.  Deadlines:  multiple in September.

 

Jeffress Memorial Trust - The purpose of the Jeffress Trust is to support basic research in chemical, medical, or other scientific fields through grants to educational and research institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Grants are given to assist scientists in such institutions to conduct investigations in the natural sciences, generally considered to include chemistry, physics, biology (with the exception of field studies, classification, other largely observational studies), studies in the basic medical sciences, such as biochemistry, microbiology, and others.  Funds should be requested for only one year, maximum $30,000.  After the first year, one-year renewals can be requested for up to $10,000 per year for up to two additional years.  These renewals should be requested at the regular application deadlines and should begin no sooner than one year after the start of the first award. Deadline:  September 1.

 

United State Institute of Peace - Fellowships for up to 10 months as part of the Jennings Randolph Program in International Peace to conduct research at the Institute on projects concerning international peace and conflict resolution.  The institute is particularly interested in proposals addressing problems of the Muslim world, post-war reconstruction and reconciliation, and responses to terrorism and political violence.  Deadline:  September 15.

National Institute of Health AREA Grants - Deadline:  September 25.

American Chemical Society PRF Grants - Deadline:  October 1.

Frederick Burkhardt Residential Fellowships for Recently Tenured Scholars - support long-term, unusually ambitious projects in the humanities and related social sciences; amount:  $75,000; tenure:  one academic year, plus institutional support for an additional period.  Deadline:  October 1.

Charles A. Ryskamp Research Fellowships - support for advanced assistant professors and untenured associated professors in the humanities and related social sciences; amount:  $60,000; tenure:  one academic year, plus one summer if justified by a persuasive case.  Deadline:  October 1.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) - Summer Stipends Awards ($5,000) provide individuals with an opportunity to pursue research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public's understanding of the humanities.  Individuals must be nominated by Washington and Lee University before submitting their proposal to NEH. Individuals who are interested can download the guidelines to be used by when drafting their proposals for consideration by Washington and Lee University nominating officials.  To find out more information about submitting your proposals to the nominating officials, contact George Carras (#8424).  Deadline:  October 1.

The American Philosophical Society - Franklin Research Grants are designed to help meet the costs of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes, the purchase of microfilm, photocopies or equivalent research materials, the costs associated with fieldwork, or laboratory research expenses. The Society does not pay overhead or indirect costs to any institution, or costs of publication. Deadlines:  October 1 for a February decision.

American Council of Learned Studies - include ACLS/Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship for Junior Faculty, ACLS/SSRC/NEH International and Area Studies Fellowships, and ACLS/New York Public Library Fellowships for funding for up to $50,000 for full professors and equivalent, $40,000 for associate professor and equivalent, and $30,000 for assistant professor and equivalent.   Deadline:  October 1.

Stanford Humanities Center - designed to provide direct support of interdisciplinary humanistic research.  There are two categories of this award:  a) senior fellowships for scholars at least ten years beyond receipt of Ph.D., and b) junior fellowships for scholars at least three years beyond receipt of Ph.D.  Deadline:  October 15.
