American Philosophical Society - Phillips Fund grants for research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans, in the continental United States and Canada. Grants are not made for projects in archaeology, ethnography, psycholinguistics, or for the preparation of pedagogical materials.  The grants are intended for such extra costs as travel, tapes, films, and consultants' fees, but not for general maintenance or the purchase of books or permanent equipment.  Deadline:  March 1.

Association for the Society of Religion - Fichter Research Grants for research on women and religion.  Deadline:  March 1.

Jeffress Memorial Trust - The purpose of the Jeffress Trust is to support basic research in chemical, medical, or other scientific fields through grants to educational and research institutions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Grants are given to assist scientists in such institutions to conduct investigations in the natural sciences, generally considered to include chemistry, physics, biology (with the exception of field studies, classification, other largely observational studies), studies in the basic medical sciences, such as biochemistry, microbiology, and others.  Funds should be requested for only one year, maximum $30,000.  After the first year, one-year renewals can be requested for up to $10,000 per year for up to two additional years.  These renewals should be requested at the regular application deadlines and should begin no sooner than one year after the start of the first award. Deadline:  March 1.
